Pebble Fictions

2023 - 2024
Woven tapestry with wool, cotton, polyester, and miscellaneous yarns
I see weaving as a expressive media with inherent rules and constraints. Woven structures are produced from tightly linked systems of calculation, mechanical motion, and the arrangement of warp and weft. Yet these technologies are not neutral: they are shaped by the agency of materials, as well as by the hands and bodies engaged in their making.
This series of tapestries were produced on a large-scale Jacquard loom, typically used in industrial manufacturing. Their patterns were designed to evoke illusions of delicate, tangible textures that feel familiar yet fictional. Through these ambiguous forms, I reflect on the material nature of weaving and explore the interstices in-between where speculations and illusions occur.
